THE OUTER FABRIC
GORE-TEX® clothing is treated with a durable water repellent (DWR) polymer. This treatment is applied to the outer layer of the fabric, causing water to bead on its surface.
THE GORE-TEX® MEMBRANE
At the heart of GORE-TEX® products is the GORE-TEX® membrane, which is placed between the lining and high-performance outer fabric. It contains 1.4 billion microscopic pores per square centimetre, which are 20,000 times smaller than a drop of water, but 700 times bigger than a moisture vapour molecule. This means that the membrane is completely waterproof and breathable, guaranteeing optimum thermal comfort.
The separate lining makes the garment more flexible and comfortable. It can also be combined with an insulating layer for increased protection against the cold and humidity.
